The distinction between coupling and clutch

CouplingAnd clutches are mainly used to connect two shafts and transmit motion and torque. They can also be used to connect shafts and other parts and to connect two parts to each other. The two shafts or transmission parts connected by the coupling can only be separated after being disassembled when the machine is stopped; and when the clutch is connected, they can be easily separated or joined during the operation of the machine. In addition, they can also be used as a security device to prevent the machine from running.
Couplings are divided into two categories: rigid and flexible.Rigid coupling is composed of rigid force-transmitting parts, and is suitable for places where two shafts are strictly aligned and no relative displacement occurs during work; flexible coupling is suitable for places where two shafts are offset or where there is relative displacement during work .Flexible couplings are divided into non-elastic elements, metal elastic parts and non-metal elastic elements. The latter two are collectively referred to as elastic couplings, which have the function of absorbing vibration and easing impact.
For rigid couplings and jaw clutches, a larger K value should be selected; for * couplings or clutches, a smaller K value should be selected; for elastic couplings and friction clutches, intermediate values can be selected.
